Review of The Children's Blizzard

This book starts out slowly. The reader is introduced to several teachers, a newspaper reporter, a bar owner, and several settlers families. It is the beginning of an unusual weather occurrence in the mid-west in 1888. As the reader you will learn about the hardships of the settlers in this region. The already difficult climate not withstanding this is a real weather tragedy. The main characters are two school teachers and how they handled the responsibility of the children in their care when this blizzard begins in the early afternoon after a beautiful warmer than usual January morning. It is based on a real event that happened and was reported on by the newspapers in Omaha and surrounding areas. So horrific were the results of this blizzard that it was covered all over the world. The mid-west is now the bread basket of the world but that wasn't so to those early settlers. This is historical fiction at its best. the author #MelanieBenjamin, does a great job with the characters and harrowing events of this blizzard. Thanks to #NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this great book #NetGalley#TheChildren's Blizzard. i
